Advice:
Write your story for yourself and not necessarily for publication.
Sit down with an old friend and tell them a story: perhaps of a formative moment; an awakening; some bizarre incident; a comic irony.
Go home and write down this story.
One memory will trigger another.
See where it takes you. The best parts happen accidentally — even an occasional great sentence.
Everything is interesting if you look at it hard enough.
Make the writing vivid. Include small details to set the scene, and as much dialogue as possible. Invent these conversations.
Collect a series of comical, sad, or dreadful moments and when you have 20 of them, piece them together like a quilt, in chronological order, and write a segue from one to the other which is easy.
Find the storytelling voice in your head.
Be honest. Self-serving bios are boring.
